Personal Computer Hardware Information

The personal computer is one of the most widely used products born out of the information technology. The systematic function of a personal computer makes use of some of the most basic rules of information processing such that it has been likened to the mechanics of the brain where in information is processed and distributed to various parts of our body.

Information is put into or fed into the computer is called data. The smallest form of information in a personal computer is called a bit which is represented by either 1 or zero. A group of 8 bits is measured or a larger measure of a bit called a byte. For the sake of efficiency the computer can recognize information fed in the form of bytes. Megabytes however are made up of a million such bytes and the reference to megabytes is made frequently by computer users when referring to large amount of data.

The personal computer hardware is thus the DNA of the computer where in information follows the path of input at the initial stages where after the information is processed where the information changes into the desired format .Thus the process of acting upon the information gives rise to data processing or just processing most of this activity is taken place in the annals of the computer in a place known as the central processing unit or the processor. The CPU is one of the main parts of the personal computer as it houses the vital information of a personal computer. CPUs like the Pentium III or the Athlon system are robust central processing units that are being utilized by millions of personal computer users. Working in tandem with the central processing unit is another co-processing unit called the numerical processing unit which handles all the numerical processing of data being input into the system.

Information is stored in the computer in two major drives or units called the RAM and the hard drive which is also often referred to as the hard disk. These are repositories of all the information that is fed by an individual into his computer. Information is stored permanently in these discs of the computer in such a way that they may be accessed anytime. The RAM or the random access memory is an essential part of the system which accesses information at random from the disks of the RAM. The information stored in RAM is susceptible to loss at the first indication of a power cut and is considered volatile in terms of storage proficiency. The more reliable method is however to store data in the sequential access mode.

The screen is called the output device which reflects the data on a screen connected to the system. The physical parts which are tangible are called hardware of a computer and those that are intangible and are an inherent part of the computer are called the software. The software operates on a set of instructions called programs. You learn about the hardware components online through free tutorials and study modules.
